vtx keeps cutting out mid flight, not sure if its the tx or antenna connection

  • Members

been dealing with this for a couple weeks now and its driving me insane. basically mid flight ill get static bursts and sometimes full video dropout for a second or two then it comes back. happens more when i bank hard or do fast rolls which makes me think its something physical but i cant reproduce it on the bench no matter what i try.

running a rushfpv tank solo 5.8ghz at 400mw on a 5inch, goggles are fatshark attitude v6. the antenna on the vtx is an ummatoo or something, one of those stubby ones that came with a random build kit. ive reseated the sma connector twice already. not sure if its a power issue, a loose connection thats only loose under g-force, or if the antenna itself is just crap. maybe all three

anyone dealt with this kind of intermittent stuff before, its so hard to debug when it wont show up on the bench

classic symptom of a bad antenna connection or a cracked antenna base. those no-name stubby antennas are notorious for having the internal conductor come loose from the sma pin and it only shows under vibration or flex. swap it out first before you go down any other rabbit hole, like literally just throw a rushfpv or foxeer pagoda on there and fly it, if the problem goes away you have your answer.

also worth checking if your vtx is getting clean power, a voltage spike from a hard maneuver can sometimes brown out the vtx for a second if your cap situation isnt great. but id bet on the antenna first

had almost identical problem on my 4inch last summer. spent way too long thinking it was the vtx itself and almost bought a replacement. turned out the sma connector on the vtx was ever so slightly loose from a crash, looked totally fine visually but when you actually pushed on it you could feel a tiny bit of play. re-soldered it and problem went away completely. worth checking that before you buy anything

also the attitude v6 has pretty mediocre receiver sensitivity from what ive seen, might be worth trying a different set of receiver antennas on the goggles too if it keeps happening after you fix the vtx side
