so basically my situation is i want to start flying drones and someone at work who flys a lot told me to just go straight for the mini 4 pro instead of wasting money on a cheaper starter drone. his logic is youll outgrow the cheap stuff fast and end up buying twice anyway. which kind of makes sense to me but also thats a lot of money to spend on something im not sure ill stick with

ive never flown anything before. not even like a little toy rc thing. is it actually easier to learn on a more expensive drone because of the sensors and stuff or is that just rationalization to buy a nicer thing

your coworker isnt wrong exactly but also isnt totally right either. the mini 4 pro is a fantastic drone and yes the obstacle avoidance does help beginners avoid some crashes but its not like it makes you immune to doing something dumb. i know people who wrecked brand new mini 4 pros their first week

honestly the argument of "buy once cry once" makes more sense if you already know youre going to stick with it. if youre not sure, grab a mini 2 SE or even a used mini 2 and fly that for a few months. if you still love it after that then yeah, upgrade and itll feel like a proper upgrade rather than just an expensive gamble

i did exactly what your coworker suggested and went straight to a mid range dji my first drone and tbh i dont regret it but i also got really into it pretty fast so. i think it depends on the person. if youre the type to go all in on a hobby then maybe. if youre still not sure probably dont spend 700+ on your first drone lol
