got a meteor65 and it just feels... off? not sure where to start

okay so this has been bugging me for a while and im not sure if its a me problem or a quad problem. picked up the meteor65 pro maybe 6 weeks ago, the brushless version obviously, and it flies but something just doesnt feel right. hard to describe but its like the quad is always slightly behind what im asking it to do, kind of mushy response especially when i flick the sticks quick.
im on a radiomaster pocket with ELRS, 1000hz packet rate, all that should be fine. the betaflight version it came with i havent touched because i didnt want to mess anything up before i figured out whats wrong first. battery is usually a 300mah 1s or sometimes 2s depending which ones charged, and i fly mostly indoors.
tried watching some tuning videos but they all assume you already know what youre looking for in the blackbox and i cant really read those graphs well enough yet to know if what im seeing is normal or not. anyone had this with a meteor or similar prebuilt and fixed it without going completely down the rabbit hole
