first proper race this weekend and i have no idea what tune to run

ok so context ? ive been flying maybe 14 months, mostly freestyle but ive done a handful of informal gates sessions at the local spot. got talked into entering an actual race this weekend, MultiGP chapter event, nothing huge but still. running a 5inch on F7, Xing2 2207s, the usual.

my freestyle tune is pretty snappy which feels good through gates in practice but im reading all this stuff about race tunes needing more P on pitch and less D and honestly im second guessing everything now. my quad feels good to me but i dont know if thats because its actually dialed or because ive just gotten used to its weirdness.

do i just leave it and fly what i know or is it worth trying to tweak the tune two days before a race. ive heard both arguments and cant figure out which camp is right

do NOT change your tune two days before. i cannot stress this enough. i did exactly this before my second race, thought i'd just bump P up a bit and clean up the propwash, ended up chasing oscillations in the pits for an hour and then flew like garbage because nothing felt familiar anymore. fly what you know. seriously.

the tune stuff matters more when you're already fast and trying to squeeze tenths. at your stage the biggest time gains are going to come from knowing the track layout and just not crashing, not from pid optimization

honestly same situation as you like six months ago and i just left my tune alone and ended up doing way better than expected. the thing nobody tells you about your first race is how different it feels when theres actual pressure and people watching. your brain is going to be doing a lot of work just dealing with that, you dont need to also be thinking about whether your quad feels different than yesterday. also get there early and walk the track before you fly it, makes a surprisingly big difference
