so ive been flying recreationally for like 3 years and finally decided to just do it and get my part 107. signed up for the test at a testing center about 45 minutes from me. i've been using the sporty's free course online and also been going through the FAA's own study guide which is honestly pretty dense in some sections.

the airspace stuff is what's really getting me. i can mostly figure out the sectional charts but the whole class B, C, D, E thing and figuring out ceilings and floors from the charts is tripping me up. like i get the general concept but when they put a specific question with a chart excerpt i second guess myself every time.

anyone have a good way to study that stuff specifically? or just general advice on what to focus on. i dont want to pay for one of the expensive prep courses if i dont have to

the airspace stuff clicked for me when i just printed out a bunch of sectional chart sections and literally quizzed myself with a highlighter. like not just reading about it but actually looking at the magenta fading, the tick marks, the numbers in the circles and forcing myself to say out loud what each thing meant. took maybe an hour of doing that and it finally made sense in a way the study guides never did.

for the test itself honestly the FAA practice questions that are floating around online are pretty close to what actually shows up. i used prepware which i think is like 30 bucks but there are free versions of similar question banks. the weather sections and the loading/performance stuff people tend to underestimate, id spend some real time on that. passed with an 85 on my first try and the airspace ended up being easier than i expected on the actual exam.

just took mine like 6 weeks ago. the chart stuff is hard to explain in text but there are some youtube videos that walk through reading sectionals specifically for 107 that helped me way more than the written guides. i think one was by a guy called pilot institute or something, they had a whole free series. good luck with it, the test itself wasnt as bad as i thought it would be honestly
