okay so i know about the 180 degree shutter rule from my ground camera days, double your framerate for the shutter speed. but does that actually hold when youre flying? ive seen people say motion blur looks weird on drone footage because the camera movement is so different from handheld. ive also seen people say just lock it to 1/50 or 1/60 for 25/30fps and slap an ND on and move on with your life.

im mostly shooting real estate and some landscape stuff, nothing action related so maybe it doesnt matter as much for my use case but i want to understand it properly rather than just copying settings without knowing why. currently running a mavic 3 classic and i have a set of ND filters but ive honestly only used the ND16 because im not sure when to switch to the others

the 180 rule still applies, the physics dont care if youre on the ground or 100 feet up. for real estate though a lot of shooters actually push it a little faster than the rule because clients dont really want motion blur on property shots, they want it sharp and clean. so like 1/100 or even 1/125 at 30fps isnt crazy for that work, you just need a stronger ND to compensate in bright conditions.

for your filter kit a rough guide is ND4 or ND8 for overcast days, ND16 for partly cloudy, ND64 for full sun around midday. thats very rough and you'll tweak based on what you're seeing but thats how i think about it. the mavic 3 classic sensor is really good so you have a bit of latitude to work with.

for landscapes i actually like a tiny bit of motion blur in the vegetation if there's wind, gives it life you know? but yeah real estate you probably want sharper. i'd just bracket your ND choices on location until you develop a feel for it, the 'correct' answer changes every shoot depending on conditions anyway
