so ive been shooting commercial work for about 4 years now mostly with the Inspire 2 and Zenmuse X7 combo and honestly it still delivers but im starting to wonder if im just used to its limitations at this point. the X7 raw files are genuinely gorgeous when you nail the exposure but the whole workflow around it ? the CinemaDNG handling, the licensing dongles, all that stuff ? its such a pain and i feel like clients are starting to notice im not bringing something newer to the conversation even if the actual footage quality is comparable.

the dual operator mode is still something i genuinely cant replace. second operator on the gimbal while i fly has saved so many shots on fast-moving subjects. does anyone still rely on this heavily or has everyone sort of moved away from it? thinking about whether the Inspire 3 jump is worth the cost or if im rationalizing an upgrade i dont actually need yet

still running the I2 on about half my jobs and honestly yeah it holds up. the X7 is probably still the best sensor DJI has put on a drone in terms of dynamic range for the form factor, the Inspire 3 footage looks amazing but youre paying a lot for incremental gains unless your clients are specifically asking for 8K or you need the wider color science that comes with the X9-8K. the dual operator thing is real though, i tried switching to a gimbal operator on other platforms and its just not the same integration, theres always lag or miscommunication with the control handoff.

one thing that actually pushed me toward considering the I3 was the obstacle avoidance at night, the I2 is basically flying blind after dark and ive had a couple of close calls. if you do a lot of urban stuff that might matter more than raw image quality honestly

the dongle situation with CinemaDNG on the I2 drove me absolutely insane on a job last year, showed up on set and the license hadnt transferred properly to the new SSD and we lost like 45 minutes troubleshooting it. just use Apple ProRes honestly, the quality difference in actual delivery is negligible for most clients and your editor will thank you
