Iflight vs Diatone ? anyone actually flown both longterm

  • Members

been running an Iflight Chimera7 for about a year now and overall its been fine but ive had a few ESC issues that kind of soured me on them a little. a buddy of mine wont shut up about his Diatone Roma F5 and how its bulletproof but i dunno, feels like every brand has their fans who think theirs is the best. im not really looking to replace anything right now just curious if theres actually a meaningful difference in build quality or if its mostly splitting hairs at this price range. the Chimera's flight characteristics are honestly pretty good once i got the tune dialed in but that ESC thing was annoying, had to reflow a joint at like 8 months in which shouldnt really happen. wondering if diatone actually uses better components or if theyre just in the honeymoon phase with his build

had both, Roma F5 and a Nazgul before that. honestly the Diatone frames feel a bit more solid to me but the Iflight stack components have been more reliable in my experience which is kind of the opposite of what you'd expect given the frame thing. the Roma did crack a top plate on me after a pretty mediocre crash, like it wasnt even that bad of a hit. ESC issues on the Chimera is a known thing from what ive seen on this forum and others, think it was a batch problem for a while. if youre not replacing it anyway i wouldnt stress, just keep an eye on your ESC temps

this is kind of an impossible comparison imo because so much depends on how you fly and what conditions. ive seen guys absolutely trash both brands and other guys run them for years no problem. the Roma F5 does have a nice frame design but at the end of the day youre probably looking at pretty similar component quality in that 200-300 dollar prebuilt range. your buddy is probably just in that phase where everything about his new quad is perfect. give it 6 more months and a few hard crashes
