ok so ive been flying with the eachine ev100s for like a year and a half and they've been fine but i keep seeing guys at the field with the HDO2s and the wtf should i know goggles and honestly im starting to feel like im missing out on range and clarity. the ev100s do the job but the image feels kinda washed out at distance and i lose signal way earlier than i should be.

my VTX right now is a 600mw unit on 5.8 and i'm running the stock dipole that came with the goggles. i know i know, everyone tells me the antennas are the first thing to upgrade but i genuinely don't know where to start. like do i get a cloverleaf and a patch combo? just go full crosshair? ive seen people swear by the lumenier axii and others say the TBS triumph is the move. and then there's the whole receiver module situation on the goggles side which is its own rabbit hole.

not really looking to drop $300+ on new goggles yet, more wondering if upgrading the antenna setup on my current gear would give me a noticeable bump before i commit to anything bigger

yeah ditching the stock dipole was the single biggest improvement i ever made, like embarrassingly obvious difference. i run the axii 2 on my goggles and a stubby on the quad and honestly the link is rock solid up to the distances i fly. the cloverleaf + patch combo is good if you're doing long range stuff but for park flying and tracks the axii handles it fine on its own.

one thing nobody tells you ? the diversity receiver module matters a lot too. if you're still on the stock module in the ev100s you're leaving a ton on the table. rapidfire or the furious true-D make a real difference in how clean the diversity switching is. might be worth that investment before jumping to new goggles honestly.

this is kind of where i was a few months ago and i ended up just getting the HDO2s and kind of regret not sorting the antenna situation first tbh. the goggles are amazing but i still had to upgrade antennas anyway so it wasn't like one fixed the other. TBS triumph is what im running now on the quad side and it's fine, no complaints. the AXII on the goggle side feels slightly better to me but i'm probably not good enough a pilot to actually tell the difference lol
