finally got my mavic 3 classic and wow the range is insane but i have a dumb question

  • Members

so i picked up the Mavic 3 Classic about two weeks ago, been flying it pretty much every chance i get. coming from a Mini 2 so the jump is pretty significant honestly. the image quality alone is just on a different level, hasleberg sensor or however you spell it does not disappoint.

anyway my actual question is about the RC-N1 controller vs the RC with the built in screen. i went with the RC-N1 to save some money and i'm using an old iphone 11 mounted on it and it works fine mostly but sometimes in bright sunlight i genuinely cannot see anything on the phone screen even with brightness maxed. like i'm basically flying blind trying to shade the screen with my hand. is this just the reality of using your phone or am i missing something? do the people using the RC with built in screen have this problem too or is the screen on that thing actually bright enough to see outdoors?

also any other tips for someone coming from the mini ecosystem would be awesome, feels like a totally different beast weight and handling wise

yeah the sunlight glare thing is a real issue with phones, no way around it really. some people use a sun hood that clips onto the controller around your phone, you can find them on amazon for like 10-15 bucks and they make a massive difference. kind of feels goofy at first but once you try it you wont go back. the RC built in screen is noticeably brighter than most phones, something like 1000 nits vs whatever your iphone 11 tops out at, so if you're flying a lot in midday sun it might eventually be worth the upgrade but its not a necessity if you get the hood

as for coming from the mini 2, main thing i'd say is dont forget this thing weighs over 900g and the wind behavior is completely different. way more stable in wind which is great, but also be mindful of battery drain when its fighting a strong headwind on the way back. the return to home on the 3 classic is really solid though so lean on that if you're not sure
