thinking about organizing a casual group flight but no idea where to start

so ive been flying for about a year now and there isnt really anything going on locally, closest club is like 45 mins away and they seem pretty serious about the whole AMA membership thing which im not against but its a bit much for what i want which is basically just a few people showing up at a field and flying together. does anyone do informal stuff like that or is it always tied to a club. i guess im also wondering about liability and whether i need to worry about that if its just a casual thing with no entry fee or anything

we do this every couple months, just post it in a local facebook group or even nextdoor and see who shows up. kept it totally informal, no fees no nothing, maybe 6-8 people usually. liability wise i honestly have no idea what the actual rules are but nothing has ever come up, we just fly safe and dont do anything stupid

the AMA thing is actually not that expensive and it does give you some liability coverage which is why clubs push it. but for just hanging out at a park field with friends you probbaly dont need to overthink it. just make sure wherever you pick is actually legal to fly at first, that tripped us up once
