ok so i bought a dji mini 2 se last week on impulse and i've been too scared to fly it outside yet. i did the indoor thing in my living room a couple times and nearly knocked over my lamp twice. the controls feel really sensitive even on the lowest sensitivity setting i think? or maybe thats just how drones are and i need to get used to it.

anyway my main question is where do people actually learn to fly these things. is there like a beginner mode or something i should turn on. i checked the dji fly app and theres a bunch of settings i dont really understand. also do i need to register it somewhere before i fly outside because i keep seeing stuff about the faa but i cant tell if that applies to me or not

yeah the sensitivity thing is totally normal, you'll adjust after maybe a few hours of stick time. what helped me early on was just finding an empty field and hovering in one spot for like 10-15 minutes without trying to go anywhere. sounds boring but it teaches you a lot about how the sticks feel. also with the mini 2 se you should be in cine mode not sport mode while you're learning, sport mode removes a lot of the stabilization stuff and it'll feel way more twitchy.

on the faa thing — yes you do need to register if it's over 250g, and i'm pretty sure the mini 2 se is right at that limit or just over. just go to the faa droneZone website and do the recreational flyer registration, it's like $5 and takes 10 minutes. don't skip it.

im basically in the same boat lol, got a mini 3 a couple months ago. the dji fly app actually has a tutorial section built in if you dig around, its not great but it covers the basics. i also watched a ton of youtube stuff before my first real flight outside which helped a lot with the confidence thing
