okay so i bought a DJI Mini 3 like two weeks ago and ive been too scared to actually fly it outside lol. i practiced in the living room a few times which was probably a dumb idea because i nearly took out a lamp. my main question is like... where do i even start? do i just go outside and try it or is there stuff i should know first. i read something about registering it with the FAA but i wasnt sure if that applied to me since its under 250g i think? also what do i do about wind, like how windy is too windy for a beginner. sorry if this is a really basic question

the under 250g thing means you dont have to register for recreational flying in the US, the Mini 3 is specifically designed to stay under that limit so youre good there. but honestly the biggest thing for a beginner is just find a big open field with nothing around you, like a park or empty sports field, and just hover. seriously just get comfortable hovering in place before you start flying around. wind... i'd say if you're seeing small branches moving pretty consistently, thats probably pushing it for your first few sessions. the drone can handle more than you think but YOU cant handle more than you think, if that makes sense. go early morning when its usually calmer.

oh man i was exactly where you are like 8 months ago. the indoor practice thing is actually not the worst idea for getting used to the sticks but yeah definitely not near furniture haha. one thing nobody told me that i wish someone had -- turn on beginner mode in the DJI app before your first real flight, it limits the speed and range so you cant accidentally send it flying off into a tree at full throttle. i forgot to do that my first time out and it was a little terrifying how fast it moved when i pushed the stick too hard
