so ive been wanting to get into drones for like 6 months now and keep going back and forth on what to buy. everyone says mini 2 is good for beginners but its been out for a while now and im wondering if i should just wait for the next version or if there's something else i should be looking at instead

mainly want to take some cool photos when i go hiking and maybe some video but nothing too crazy. budget is around 500-600 i guess but could stretch a bit if its really worth it

honestly the mini 2 is still solid even if its not the newest thing. ive had mine for over a year and its been great for exactly what you described - hiking photos and casual video. the image quality is really good for the price and its super portable which matters more than you think when your actually carrying it around trails

only downside is no obstacle avoidance but if your careful and practice in open areas first youll be fine. i wouldnt wait personally, prices might not even drop much when new stuff comes out

wait what about the air 2s though? i thought that was supposed to be better than the mini 2 but maybe im thinking of something else. im in the same boat as op trying to figure out my first drone purchase and there's just so many options
