got stopped at airport security with my lipo batteries again

  • Members

this is like the third time this has happened to me and im getting pretty frustrated. flying out of a smaller regional airport and the TSA agent pulled my whole bag and started asking about the batteries. i had them in a lipo safe bag, labeled, all under 100wh which should be completely fine as carry-on. took like 20 minutes to sort out and almost missed my connection.

i know the rules, i travel with this stuff all the time, but it feels like it just depends on who you get at security. anyone else deal with this constantly or is there something im doing differently that makes it worse

happens to me everytime at smaller airports. big hubs like JFK or LAX the agents have seen it all and just wave you through. regional airports its like they've never seen a lipo in their life. i started printing out the FAA guidelines and keeping a copy folded up with the batteries which sounds ridiculous but it has actually helped twice now.

the lipo safe bag might actually be making it worse weirdly? like it flags visually on the xray and makes them curious. a buddy of mine just puts his batts in a clear zip lock now with the wh ratings facing up and says he barely gets stopped anymore. no idea if thats actually why but might be worth trying
