so anyway went to my first community fly-in last month and it was fun but also kind of chaotic? nobody was really coordinating anything and at one point i counted like 6 drones in the air at the same time all going different directions. i get that its supposed to be casual but it felt a little sketchy, one guy nearly clipped someones fpv quad on a return to home. curious if other peoples experiences have been like this or if some clubs actually have a system for it

yeah that sounds about right for a lot of informal meetups. the better organized clubs usually have a flight director or at least someone loosely managing whos up at what time, but a lot of local groups are just vibes-based and hope for the best. the RTH near-miss thing is real, i always disable RTH at events and just fly manual back because the altitude conflicts alone are sketchy when theres that many birds up

honestly this is why i havent gone to any of the local ones near me. seems like a liability waiting to happen with no actual rules. though i did go to an AMA sanctioned event once and that was way more structured, like they actually had designated flight lines and everything. totally different vibe
