group flights are kind of a mess tbh

so anyway went to my first official club fly-in last month and idk it was kind of overwhelming. like everyone's launching at once and nobody really coordinates who's going where and i nearly had a close call with some guy's 5 inch freestyle rig just absolutely ripping past me while i was trying to do a slow cinematic pass over the treeline. i get that its supposed to be fun and i had a good time meeting people but the airspace management side of it felt really informal. do most clubs actually have rules about this stuff or is it just vibes

most AMA sanctioned clubs have a flight director role for exactly this reason, someone who's supposed to manage whos in the air and call out when somethings getting sketchy. sounds like yours just wasnt running it properly or nobody wanted to play bad guy. the good clubs i've been to have a designated flight line and a rule that you announce takeoff and landing, makes a huge difference. might be worth bringing it up next time or seeing if theres a more organized event in your area

tbh yeah my local club is also just vibes lol. the older fixed wing guys are super strict about the flight line but the fpv crowd kind of does whatever. i stopped going to the big group days and just show up early on weekdays when its quiet, way more relaxing
