took the mavic to japan last month — few things i wish i knew before

so anyway i finally got back and wanted to write something up while its still fresh. japan was incredible but flying there is a whole different situation than i expected. you have to register with the DIPS system before you go, like you cant just land and fly, it takes a few days to process and i almost missed my window because i didn't realize that until i was already at the airport

also flying in tokyo is basically a no unless youre willing to jump through serious hoops. i ended up doing most of my flying in the countryside around kyoto and up near hokkaido which was honestly fine and not that crowded with other fliers. the scenery up there was unreal. just be ready for a lot of paperwork and dont assume your home country registration means anything over there

ive been wanting to do japan for ages and always put off the drone stuff because it seemed complicated. this is helpful actually. did you bring a step down converter for charging or did the mavic charger handle the voltage fine on its own
