group flights always end up being a mess for me

maybe im just not cut out for these community events idk. went to the third one this year and every time i feel like i spend more time worrying about other peoples quads in the airspace than actually enjoying my own flight. like someone always decides to just yolo a full throttle punch out right when youre trying to do a smooth cinematic pass. not trying to be that guy who complains but its frustrating when theres no real communication happening. does anyone actually do callouts at these things or is that just a race event thing

callouts are pretty standard at organized race events yeah but casual meetups its kind of a free for all. the good groups usually have someone who takes point and at least does a general briefing at the start but honestly a lot of fly-ins are just vibes. might be worth finding a smaller group, like 5-6 people max, way easier to coordinate and you actually get to talk to people between flights

ugh yes this drives me crazy too. I fly fpv mostly and at the last meetup i went to some guy with a mavic just hovered right in the middle of everyones flightpath for like 10 minutes taking photos. no situational awareness at all. i think the problem is these events dont really screen for experience level or flying style so you get everyone mixed together which doesnt really work great
