flying in Costa Rica next month — anyone done this?

  • Members

so im heading to Costa Rica for like 3 weeks in February and obviously the mavic is coming with me. ive been reading some stuff online about their drone laws but honestly the info seems kinda scattered and contradictory depending on where you look. some sites say you need to register with DGAC beforehand, others make it sound like just dont fly over national parks and youre fine. anyone actually flown there recently and know whats actually enforced vs just on paper?

also curious about flying near the beach areas, like tamarindo or manuel antonio. those places are going to be packed with tourists so i assume theres some unwritten rule about not being that guy hovering over everyones heads lol

flew there back in, the DGAC registration thing is real and they do technically require it but i never got stopped or questioned once. that said i was mostly flying early morning in less populated spots, volcan arenal area, some rural roads heading toward the cloud forest. just used common sense and kept it low key. the national parks are a genuine no-go though, rangers there actually pay attention

manuel antonio is going to be rough just because its so crowded and the park boundaries are kind of everywhere. my cousin flew there last year and said he just drove about 20 mins outside of town to get clear shots without anyone bothering him. beach stuff is tricky anywhere honestly, too many people and some of those areas have restricted airspace you dont even realize until youre already up
