flying in iceland next month, any tips?

  • Members

so im heading to iceland in about 5 weeks and obviously bringing the mini 4 pro. ive been trying to figure out the airspace rules there and its honestly kind of confusing. from what i can tell you need to register with icelandic transport authority if the drone is over 250g which mine obviously is. but i cant find clear info on whether i need like a foreign operators certificate or if my a1/a3 from the UK carries over since we're not in the EU anymore. anyone actually flown there recently and dealt with this? also curious about the wind, i know it can get absolutely brutal out there

went last september, the wind is no joke man. lost a few shots because of it and honestly had a few moments where i wasnt sure the mini was gonna make it back. generally speaking the rules werent too strictly enforced from what i saw but that doesnt mean you should ignore them. i registered online before i went and it was pretty straightforward, took maybe 20 minutes. dont quote me on the UK cert thing though, that was murky when i looked into it too

the landscape is insane for aerial footage tho. even if the rules are a headache its worth figuring out. i think there are some restricted zones around reykjavik and near the main national parks so just double check on the uas.is site before you go anywhere
