finally got my Mavic 3 classic and have some dumb questions

  • Members

ok so i picked up the Mavic 3 Classic last week and ive been flying it around my neighborhood just getting comfortable with it. coming from a Mini 2 so some stuff feels familiar but a lot doesnt. my main thing right now is i keep losing my nerve when it gets any kind of distance away, like i know the video feed is fine but my brain just panics a little. is that normal or am i just being weird about it.

also someone told me i should get ND filters right away but i wasnt sure if thats actually necessary for just casual flying or if its more of a cinematography thing. i dont really plan on doing professional video work, more just travel and personal stuff. dont want to spend money on things i dont actually need.

the distance anxiety thing is super normal, honestly most people go through that phase especially if you're stepping up from a smaller bird. what helped me was just picking a fixed point in the distance, flying to it slowly, and landing there instead of flying back. somehow that reframes it mentally. you get used to trusting the signal and the return to home feature pretty fast once you've tested it a few times deliberately.

on the ND filters, for casual personal stuff youre probably fine without them for a while. they make a real difference if you care about that cinematic motion blur look at 180 degree shutter rule stuff, but if you're just capturing memories on vacation or whatever, auto settings will honestly get you decent results. maybe grab a cheap set of 3rd party ones later if you get curious, no need to drop on the Freewell or PolarPro kits right away.

yeah the panic feeling goes away i promise lol. i remember watching my Mini just hovering like a dot in the sky and being convinced it was about to fall. now i barely think about it. just fly more and your brain adjusts.
