Mini 4 Pro vs DJI Air 3S Wind Performance - Real World Testing Results

Been testing both units in coastal conditions averaging 15-20 mph sustained winds with gusts hitting 25-30 mph. The DJI Mini 5 Pro is rated Level 6 (up to 12 m/s, about 27 mph) versus the Mini 4 Pro's Level 5 (10.7 m/s, about 24 mph). The Air 3S and Mavic 4 Pro both reach Level 7 (13.8 m/s, about 31 mph). However, real-world performance shows significant differences from manufacturer specs.

Air 3S maintains gimbal stability much better during crosswind conditions - less compensation drift and smoother footage. Mini 4 Pro struggles with precise positioning when gusty conditions near the rating limit are more dangerous than sustained wind slightly above it, because the drone can brace against steady wind but gets caught off-guard by sudden spikes.

Battery consumption differences are notable: Air 3S averaged 18-22% higher drain in wind vs calm, Mini 4 Pro showed 25-30% increase. Anyone else seeing similar performance gaps between rated specs and field conditions?

Great testing methodology! I've noticed the same pattern with my Air 3S. Two-Thirds Wind Rule - operators should only fly drones when the current wind speeds are below two-thirds of the drone's rated capability. This has been my go-to safety margin and it's proven reliable.

The danger is asymmetric: the outbound leg with the wind behind you feels fine, then the return into the headwind drains battery far faster than expected. Many pilots are surprised by how little battery remains when they turn back. This asymmetric battery drain caught me off guard initially - now I always plan return flights as the high-consumption leg.
