gimbal keeps drifting after i recalibrate ? starting to lose my mind

  • Members

ok so ive been dealing with this for like three weeks now and i cant figure out if its a hardware issue or im just doing something wrong. running a DJI RS3 on a custom build with a Sony a7IV and the gimbal will be perfectly level when i calibrate it on the bench, flies fine for maybe 10-15 minutes, then starts drifting noticeably on the roll axis. like maybe 3-4 degrees, which sounds small but absolutely ruins footage when you watch it back.

ive tried recalibrating with the camera in different positions, redoing the motor strength settings, even updated firmware twice. the drift seems worse when the battery gets below 50% but thats just a guess based on when i notice it. anyone else had this happen or know what im actually supposed to check here because ive been going in circles

had almost the exact same thing with my RS2 a while back. turned out my camera plate wasnt seated fully and was flexing micro amounts under vibration ? enough that the IMU was basically chasing a moving target. worth double checking that the mounting plate is fully locked down and that theres no flex when you wiggle it slightly. also the battery thing you mentioned is actually a real symptom, lower voltage means motors are working harder to compensate and drift shows up more. try a fresh fully charged battery on a short flight and see if the window before drift starts changes.

not sure if this applies but whats the payload balance like? if the camera isnt balanced close to neutral before you power on the gimbal the motors are constantly fighting it and they wear out faster or overheat a bit. i learned this the hard way putting a heavier lens on without rebalancing and wondering why my footage looked weird after a while
