so anyway i finally dragged myself out to one of these group fly days after lurking in this hobby for like two years and man it was kind of overwhelming in a good way i guess. expected it to be more organized but it was basically just a field with like 20 guys doing their own thing and occasionally yelling heads up. i mostly just watched for the first hour because there was so much going on. one dude had a massive octocopter thing that sounded like a lawnmower taking off, another corner was full of guys doing gates with tiny whoops. i did eventually fly my avata a bit but felt kinda self conscious the whole time. gonna go back though, people were friendly once you actually talked to them

that sounds about right honestly. the first one is always a bit chaotic. after a few times you start to figure out the unwritten rules and it gets way more fun. glad you went though, most people never bother and just fly alone forever

the avata is a solid choice to bring to those things imo, easy to fly in smaller spaces and people always have questions about the goggles setup. did anyone end up letting you try their rig or anything? thats always my favorite part of meetups
