customs stopped me over my drone batteries lol

yeah so this just happened on my way back from japan. had three lipo batteries in my carry on like ive done a dozen times before and this time they pulled me aside and made me take everything out. ended up being fine but they held me for like 25 minutes asking questions about the watt hours and whether they were inside the drone or loose. had to show them the mah rating on each one

lesson learned i guess — print out the specs sheet for your batteries or have it on your phone before you go through. the agent had no idea what a 2000mah battery meant and i had to explain that it was under the 100wh limit. bit stressful honestly especially when you're trying to catch a connection

Japan was actually super strict about the whole thing when i went in. had to register on the DIPS system before i could legally fly anywhere and even then certain areas near cities were just a flat no. beautiful country to shoot but the airspace rules are genuinely complicated compared to most places ive been. worth doing your research like two weeks before not two days before like i did
