EVO II Pro keeps doing this weird thing on startup ? anyone else

  • Members

not sure how to describe this exactly but when i power up the EVO II Pro the gimbal does its calibration thing like normal but then it kind of twitches and sits at a slightly crooked angle for like 10-15 seconds before correcting itself. happens maybe 60% of the time, other times it just boots up fine and goes straight to level.

footage has been fine when i actually fly so im not sure if its even a real problem or just a quirk. it started happening after i updated the firmware a few weeks ago, before that i dont remember ever noticing it. i did try rolling back once but honestly the process was confusing and i wasnt confident i did it right so i just went back to the latest version.

temps here have been pretty cold lately so could be that? im in the midwest and its been sitting in my car sometimes before i fly which probably isnt ideal. anyway just wondering if anyone else has seen this or if i should actually be worried about it.

the cold thing is almost definitely contributing. gimbal motors dont love being cold and if the drone was sitting in a car in freezing temps the grease in the gimbal mechanism gets thick and sluggish. i had similar weirdness with my EVO II last winter and it basically went away once spring hit. before you fly in the cold try letting the drone sit powered on for a couple minutes before you take off, it helps everything warm up and the gimbal usually sorts itself out. if its still doing it in warmer weather then maybe worth reaching out to Autel support but id bet its just the temperature.

yeah ive seen the gimbal twitch thing on mine too and i never updated firmware so i dont think thats nessecarily the cause. mine does it occasionally and then just corrects itself, footage always comes out fine. i kind of just accepted it as a quirk at this point. the EVO II is a great drone but little stuff like this is why i think Autel still has some catching up to do on the software and firmware polish side of things. hardware is top tier though imo.
