ok so this is kind of a funny story in hindsight but was absolutely terrifying in the moment. was out near the black sand beach at reynisfjara, wind looked totally fine on the ground but the second i got the mavic up to like 40 meters it just started getting absolutely battered. return to home kicked in thank god but it was drifting sideways so much i genuinely thought it was going in the ocean. took like 3 minutes to get back which felt like forever. landed about 15 meters from where i took off. lesson learned, wind at ground level in iceland means absolutely nothing, always check higher altitude winds before flying. windy.com saved my life on the rest of the trip honestly

yeah iceland is brutal for that. i use windy and also check meteoblue for altitude specific wind data, its way more granular. reynisfjara specifically is a wind tunnel because of the cliffs. beautiful shots if you get a calm window though, totally worth it
