so ive been flying my mini 3 pro for like 6 months now and honestly most of my footage has been pretty garbage until last week. went out to the reservoir about 45 minutes before golden hour and just kind of winged it, no shot list or anything, and i think it actually turned out better than all the times i planned stuff out obsessively lol

the colors came out way more saturated than i expected, i was shooting in d-log m and did a pretty basic grade in resolve. nothing fancy. the water reflection when the sun was hitting it at like 15 degrees or whatever was insane, i kept doing slow orbit shots around this little dock and i think one of them is actually usable

anyone else find that their best shots come from just messing around rather than having a whole plan? also open to feedback if anyone wants to see the clip, ill try to figure out posting a link

yeah post the link, curious to see. sunset over water is tough to mess up with the mini 3 honestly that sensor handles golden hour really well. i find the same thing where i overthink my planned shoots and then something random ends up being my favorite clip from the day

one thing tho — if you were shooting d-log m make sure you pulled your highlights down before doing anything else in resolve, sometimes people skip that and then wonder why the grade looks weird. probably already know that but just in case

orbit shots around docks are so good. i did something similar at a marina a few weeks ago and it was the first time i felt like my footage actually looked cinematic instead of just... drone footage you know? post the link whenever you figure it out
