EVO Nano+ keeps losing connection like 50 feet away, driving me crazy

okay so this has been bugging me for a while and i finally decided to post about it. got my Nano+ a few months back and i love the little thing but the range is just... bad? like not even close to what they advertise. i get disconnects sometimes within 50-60 feet especially if theres any kind of obstruction between me and the drone, even like a chain link fence or a car in the way

ive tried everything i can think of ? updated the firmware, uninstalled and reinstalled the autel sky app, tried a different phone (samsung s22 vs my old pixel 4), same problem on both. wifi interference seems like the obvious culprit but ive tested it in pretty open fields too and still get the occasional dropout

not sure if its my unit specifically or if this is just a known thing with the Nano series. anyone else run into this or have i just got a lemon

the Nano+ uses the phone as the controller which is the main issue here ? youre at the mercy of your phone's wifi/bluetooth antenna and honestly some phones just handle it better than others. i had similar problems and the thing that helped me most was turning off mobile data completely before flying, background apps were apparently fighting for the connection. also make sure you dont have a thick case on your phone, sounds dumb but it actually matters. if none of that works it might genuinely be a defective unit, autel support has been pretty decent in my experience, worth reaching out before your warranty runs out

yeah the phone-as-controller setup on the nano series is kind of its biggest weakness imo. great little camera drone but if you need solid range you really want something with a dedicated RC. i had a lite plus before switching to the nano and the dedicated controller made such a difference. anyway probably not helpful if youre set on keeping it but just something to think about if range is gonna be a regular issue for you
