Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to the drone game (just got my DJI Mini 4 Pro last month) and I keep seeing landing pads everywhere. Do I actually need one? I usually fly from my backyard or clean pavement at parks.

They seem kind of expensive for what looks like fancy fabric. Is it just marketing or do they actually make a difference? Would love to hear from experienced pilots!

Landing pads are genuinely useful on beaches and sand - sand is one of the quickest ways to shorten motor and gimbal life, even if you take off cleanly. For backyard flying on clean surfaces, honestly you can skip it for now.

The downdraft from propellers kicks up dust and debris that will scratch the camera lens or coat it in dust. I learned this the hard way after a dusty field flight ruined some footage. Worth the $20 investment IMO.

I was skeptical too but got one after flying in tall grass where my drone almost tipped over during landing. If you're in an area with tall grass, a landing pad provides a flat place - a heavier pad is advisable in such cases.
