flying in italy next month, any tips on airspace rules there

  • Members

so im heading to italy for about 3 weeks in june and obviously the mavic is coming with me. ive done a bunch of research but the rules seem to change depending on who you ask. from what i can tell you need to register with ENAC and get some kind of operator ID but honestly the website is a nightmare to navigate if you dont speak italian. anyone actually flown there recently and can tell me if its worth the hassle or if ill just end up with the drone sitting in the hotel room the whole time

mainly want to fly around the amalfi coast and maybe some of the hillside towns in tuscany. not interested in flying over crowds or anything sketchy, just landscape stuff early in the morning when nobody's around

flew there last september with my mini 3. the ENAC registration thing is real, you do need it, but honestly it wasnt that bad once i found the english version of the portal. took maybe 20 mins. the bigger issue is that so many of the scenic spots are either in restricted zones near airports or they fall into some kind of heritage protection area. amalfi coast especially, a lot of it is CTR airspace or just outright prohibited. i used drone assist and also cross referenced with the D-Flight app which is the official italian one. i still got some great shots but had to drive further inland than i expected

dont quote me on this but i think the mini 2 and under might have different rules there, something about sub 250g being treated differently in the EU open category. worth double checking because it might save you some paperwork. also june is gonna be packed with tourists so early morning is definitely the right call if you wanna get clean shots without randos walking into frame every 5 seconds
