this was back in September and i still think about it. was hiking near Glencoe, absolutely stunning day, not much wind or so i thought. sent the mini 4 pro out over this valley and it was getting these incredible shots and then the wind just picked up out of nowhere, like a gust that wasnt showing in the forecast at all. watched it fight the wind for a second then it just... went down behind a ridge. RTH kicked in but i think it landed on a slope and slid or something because when i got to where the map said it should be there was nothing there.

spent two hours looking. had to leave because the weather was turning. still get notifications from the find my drone thing occasionally which is just cruel tbh. anyway moral of the story check the mountain weather forecasts specifically not just the general area ones, theyre completely different and i learned that the expensive way

oof. that valley wind thing in Scotland is no joke, i got caught out near Ben Nevis last summer and my footage was basically just horizon wobble. sorry about the mini 4, that hurts. did you try UAV Forecast or just regular weather? makes a huge difference in hilly terrain

thats gutting man. i always set my RTH altitude way higher than i think i need it when im flying anywhere near hills or ridgelines for exactly this reason. doesnt help you now obviously but for anyone reading this — if there are any elevated features around, just bump that RTH height up before you launch. learned it the almost-hard-way once
