okay so this was dumb of me. was in Portugal last summer, cliffs near Sagres, absolutley stunning spot and i was so caught up in the view that i just kept pushing the drone further out over the water to get a wider shot of the coastline. wind out there is no joke and it was already pretty gusty on the ground.

signal started dropping in and out which i should have taken way more seriously. RTH kicked in at some point and it came back but it was flying weird the whole way, i think the wind was just hammering it. landed with like 8% battery. my hands were actually shaking.

anyway if youre flying coastal cliffs anywhere in southern europe just be really careful with the wind, it doesnt feel as bad as it is when you're standing on the ground

ugh that 8% landing gives me anxiety just reading it. ive had a similar thing happen in Scotland near the coast, the wind at altitude is genuinely way stronger than what you feel at launch and it sneaks up on you. i now have a hard rule that if its gusty at all on the ground i check the wind layer data before i even unfold anything
