so this has been bugging me for a while and i cant figure out if its a settings thing or if my unit is actually having an issue. basically when i fly inside my house the Nano+ just slowly drifts, like it wont hold position at all. outside its totally fine, really stable, does everything i expect. but inside its like it has a mind of its own.

ive calibrated the IMU and compass multiple times. checked for any obvious propeller damage, everything looks fine. its running the latest firmware as far as i know. the thing is i bought it partly because i wanted to do some slow smooth indoor shots for a project im working on and right now thats just not really possible the way its behaving.

anyone dealt with this? im pretty new to drones so maybe im missing something obvious here

yeah this is pretty normal for small drones indoors unfortunately. GPS doesnt work inside obviously so it switches to optical flow positioning using the downward sensors, and optical flow really struggles on surfaces without a lot of texture or pattern ? like plain wood floors, white tile, anything uniform. try flying it over a patterned rug or carpet and see if the hold improves, that usually makes a big difference. also make sure theres decent lighting because the optical flow camera needs to actually see the ground clearly to do its thing.

what the other person said about optical flow is right. also worth checking if youre flying near any big windows or reflective surfaces because that can confuse the sensors too. i had a similar issue with mine in my garage and it turned out the polished concrete floor was basically invisible to the downward camera. moved to the living room over the rug and it was way more stable. its not a perfect solution but it works well enough for most shots. for really locked down indoor stuff some people use a separate positioning system but thats way overkill for most use cases
