so ive been putting together a semi-permanent outdoor track on a field near me, got permission and everything, and im trying to figure out how tight i can realistically make the gate spacing before it just becomes unflyable for anyone who isnt running a full race tune on their 5inch

right now i have like 8 gates and the tightest section is a chicane with gates probably 12-13 meters apart which honestly felt fine when i was flying it slow but then a buddy came out and just absolutely binned it twice going through because he couldnt slow down in time. so now i dont know if the issue is my gate placement or if he just needs more stick time before we race there

also not sure if the approach angle on gate 4 is weird ? its right after a sweeping left and you kind of come in at this awkward angle that forces you to be pretty precise. thought it added challenge but maybe its just annoying. any of you guys built outdoor tracks that got used regularly, whats your take on spacing

12-13 meters is honestly on the tighter end for a 5inch outdoor course especially if people are pushing throttle out of that left sweeper. the standard multiGP spec for a lot of their gates is more like 15-20m between technical sections so you have somewhere to actually carry speed. the chicane sounds fun on paper but if its forcing people to brake hard twice in a row with no real reward after it might just feel punishing rather than technical

the approach angle thing is interesting though ? awkward angles arent necessarily bad, some of the best gates ive flown through are slightly offset so you have to plan your line 2-3 gates ahead. but there's a difference between a gate that rewards good planning and one that just catches you out randomly. if you can, try moving gate 4 so the approach is a bit more readable from gate 3. fly it a few times and see if it clicks better

your friend might also just need to dial his rates back a bit if hes binning it in tight sections, just saying. not everything is a track design problem lol. i fly a pretty aggro tune and even i have a mellower profile saved for technical tracks
