flying in Iceland next month, anyone done this?

  • Members

so ive been planning this trip to Iceland for like 6 months and only just started looking into drone rules there and im kind of overwhelmed. i fly a mini 4 pro so under 250g which i thought would just let me go anywhere but apparently thats not really how it works over there? like there are still restricted zones and national park stuff to figure out

has anyone actually flown there recently, like or this year? would love to know if you had to register anything or if you just showed up and winged it. i dont wanna get my gear confiscated on day one of a two week trip lol

not iceland specifically but ive done norway and finland and the nordic countries in general are pretty reasonable about drones as long as youre not being an idiot about it. national parks are always

went last september, did the ring road. the under 250g thing does help but you still cant just fly anywhere in the highlands or near certain protected areas. i used the icelandic transport authority website and also dronelink has some good airspace overlay stuff. honestly the hardest part wasnt the rules it was the wind, i nearly lost my mini 3 twice near jokulsarlon

just download the relevant apps before you go and check each spot the night before. most places i stopped were fine, just use common sense near populated areas and the big tourist spots
