had a situation last week and not totally sure how i handled it right. shot a commercial property, medium sized office building, client was happy with everything during the shoot itself. got the footage back to them two days later and they came back saying the sky looked too dramatic and overcast and could i reshoot on a clearer day.

weather was genuinely overcast that day, not stormy or anything, just gray. i did mention it before we started and they said lets just go ahead and do it. so i went ahead.

now im unsure if i should charge for the reshoot or not. part of me thinks i covered myself by flagging the weather but i also didnt get anything in writing and i want to keep this client for future work. they do a lot of commercial real estate.

do you all have weather clauses in your contracts or is that something most people just handle case by case

yeah this is exactly why weather clauses exist in contracts. i learned this the hard way about a year into doing client work. now my contract literally says client assumes responsibility for weather conditions if shoot proceeds after pilot advisory ? something like that, i had a lawyer friend help me phrase it properly.

for your situation, since you verbally flagged it, i think you have some ground to stand on but without anything in writing its fuzzy. if this client has a lot of future work coming your way i might do the reshoot at a reduced rate or free and just make damn sure the contract is tighter going forward. its one of those annoying situations where the relationship is probably worth more than being technically right

also sky replacement is a thing if the actual compositions are solid, lightroom and luminar both handle it, might be worth offering that as a middle ground before you even get to a full reshoot conversation

wait do people actually do sky replacement for drone footage? i thought that was more of a photo thing. does it work well on video too or just stills
